Los Angeles

Hello, hello! We have a much healthier Holly today!

Los Angeles was so much fun! Shannon and I went for a walk on the beach after warmly greeting Uncle Wendell! Shannie and I took a different way home than how we went and got a bit lost - shocking I know! We sadly called a 1-800 number for directions and realized we were about a mile away from home! Whoops! We got back from our walk completely parched and hot, so where else did we go but Uncle Wendell's beautiful pool! Monica joined me in the water while Shannie tended to a blister. I even went down the water slide!

That night we met Aunt Crit, Sarah, Wendy, Grace and husband Steve at C and O a wonderful, little Italian restaurant. They have big portions and delicious olive oil rolls. We enjoyed a walk down the Venice canals after dinner. What used to be these simple bungalows most people have turned into these gorgeously unique homes with beautiful flowers and beautiful windows. And for only several million dollars Aunt Crit said I could buy one! It was so nice to see everyone! Sarah was beautiful as always with her long wavy locks and was getting ready to start a new job the next day. Steve and Grace actually offered us their house outside of Yellowstone, which worked out to be a blessing from God because our original plans had fallen through! Yet another sign that God has his hand in our trip!

After our delightful walk, Wendy invited us back to her place for dessert! What a beautiful backyard she has! When we got there they had a fire raging (yes, it was a little chilly at night!) and chairs set up around it. They basically have a fruit orchard in their back yard along with a beautiful fountain/water works thing that Don built. They grow avocado, lemons, figs, tangerine's, pomegranates, and probably more! I think that is so neat! We had chocolate silk pie, a personal favorite for us Walker ladies, thanks to Aunt Crit! It was a lovely, warm welcome to Los Angeles!

On Tuesday, we went to The Getty Museum in the morning, and even though Shannie isn't a big fan of art museums I told her she had to come and at least check out the view. We meandered through a few exhibits, enjoyed a Menagerie collection and a few Monet, Manet, Degas, and Cezanne favorites. But of course, one of my favorite parts of the Getty is the garden -- oh goodness, it is so beautiful and well-managed. Not a weed in sight and the sound of flowing water can be heard wherever you go! We left the museum and headed home for leftovers from C and O - YUMMO! Uncle Wendell opted out of accompanying us to Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Shopping with three girls - I can't imagine where the drawback is :) Needless to say, we all needed what I fondly call retail therapy. We only did minimum damage to the wallets, but thoroughly enjoyed taking in all the interesting sites and styles of southern California. One of our favorites is Lush - an all natural bath store. We picked up some pepperoni and fat-free cheese pizza and Uncle Wendell's favorite little place Lenzini's. It was quite delicious. We had fresh watermelon for dessert. Oh, which reminds me, Uncle Wendell has fresh fruit ready for our breakfast every morning, best cereal ever! And even though he gets up before us, he always waits until we're up to eat with us, so sweet and thoughtful! We stayed in and took a walk to the rich end of the neighborhood before calling it a night. Dad, you should have gotten in on the market, I feel it is just way out of reach now, which is truly a shame, because I wouldn't mind becoming a California girl! (Cover mom's eyes!)

We sadly departed from LA after our fresh fruit/cereal and dessert breakfast. I assured Uncle Wendall that as long as the invitation stays open, I will gladly keep coming back to visit!
